WORK
My
father was transferred to Ashland, KY halfway through senior year, so moved
with family 3 days after graduation, was unfortunate to lose contacts so fast.
Went to U. of K. where I majored in moonshine, hillbilly women and poker. My
minor was in incompletes, no one told me I had to go to class to get credits.
After 1 ½ years of college/ 9 credits but a ton of fun my parental funding was
cut off. Went to work for JC Penney in 1974 (Zanesville and Columbus) ending at
corporate offices in Dallas in 1988, first as a buyer, then in strategic
sourcing quality. Left JCP in 1998 to become Director of Quality-Haggar Clothing Co. Wanting to expand out of clothing so
went to work for Michaels Stores in 2008. The quality and sourcing work has
allowed me to travel, 42 country stamps in my passport, averaging 5-6
international trips a year. Love what I do, never a dull moment.
PERSONAL
Married
35 years to Buckeye wife Kay who is an RN, (hospitals, doc offices, last 17
years as a school nurse). Living in same house since we moved
to Highland Village Texas (suburb of Dallas-population 16k). Raised our two kids here, one son/daughter. Both are
married, living close by with 2 daughters each. The 4 grand-daughters keep us
young, they all spent New Year’s Eve with us; realize we’re not as young as we
used to be. We love Dallas and the South, do not miss the snow and cold, do
miss the Steelers, do not like Jerry Jones/Cowboys.
Still have my first car, 1969 Triumph GT6+. Republican,
probably a liberal. Enjoy local politics; have served on several
boards/commissions since moving here. Actually planning to run for Mayor in May
elections, a volunteer position so I will still have to keep my day job! Always
say bass fishing is my hobby but never seem to have time for it.
