2012 - 40th What have I been up to these past 40 years?? Well let's see: I graduated American University in WDC in '76 with a degree in graphic design, and have been working in my field pretty much since then. After graduation, I headed west. Loaded up my little custom Veedub, and landed in Denver. At the time, it felt like more an overgrown cow town than a city (I know it is not like that today!) and decided I liked the east coast better, so I loaded up that same VW and headed to Atlanta. Was there about a year, made some poor personal choices, so left and headed back to DC. Good transition and good for my soul. Worked at a small agency in Reston until wanderlust struck again. This time, it was all the way to LA in a hot rod Mustang! Enjoyed living on the beach in Venice, but again, I was drawn back east. So back to DC, where I worked for one of our classmates: Stephanie West, who had recently opened her own design firm. And she is still running that business today! In 87, my dad passed away and I came home to be with my mom and help her thru. This phase lasted about a year, til I met my daughter's father. We traveled back to DC, where Devon was born in 1990. The relationship with her dad didn't last, so I returned to da burgh in 1992, with my little girl and have been here ever since. So Devon followed in my scholastic footprints, attending Foster, Mellon, and MTLHS, where she graduated in 2008, then recently received her u degrade degree from Kent State. She will be attending grad school there in the fall, as well as working in her field of exercise science at Akron General's Wellness Center. Just call me "proud mama"!! But yeah, this is about me, not her. (even tho she is my most favorite person on the planet!!) I am now living not far from where I grew up. I'm in Castle Shannon, and my mom, who just turned 90 in March, is doing great and still likes living with me! Go figure ... I work at a small printing company in Station Square and am quite happy doing the graphics I've been doing now for almost all of those 40 years. And most recently, I rediscovered my love for acoustic guitar, and began studying with my all-time guitar hero, Jorma Kaukonen, of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna fame. Fingerstyle blues brings me such joy! Ask and maybe I'll play a tune or two for you! |
