2012 - 40th In the past 40 years I have pursued 3 passions: China, global public health and getting above tree line. I continued studying Chinese in college at Georgetown, studied in Hong Kong (note that the serious students went to Taiwan), and lived in Beijing from 1985 - 1987 and 2005 - 2007. Not sure that any of the studying helped since I could barely order food at a restaurant and remain mostly illiterate in written Chinese. I got a MPH from the University of Pittsburgh and have been working in global public health since 1980, mostly with PATH (www.path.org) in Seattle, Washington. Most recently I have been working in Tanzania and Vietnam, and will miss the reunion due to a meeting in Paris. Since that’s an unusual meeting site for me, I’m taking Paris over Pittsburgh! I particularly like Tanzania since they speak English there. And what about the tree-line thing? I just finished climbing all five of Washington’s volcanos and now am thinking of moving on to Oregon’s. And finally, happily married to Stan the Man for 30 years; no pets, no plants, no kids. |
