2022 - 50th Since our 40th reunion my husband Doug and I have retired to Savannah, Georgia. We had lived in New Jersey/New York area since the later 70s. In the fall of 2016, I sold my business. I had owned a lifestyle magazine in New Jersey (Matters Magazine) since 1987. We now live in a golf and boating community, The Landings, on Skidaway Island, about 8 miles from historic downtown Savannah. Retirement is wonderful and I spend a lot of time on our golf courses and immersed in a very active social calendar here in Savannah. It’s a remarkable location to round out the 4th quarter of life. We enjoy a steady stream of visitors and my “tour directing” has improved as well as my southern cooking. I’m involved in the Garden Club, the Savannah Book Festival, and as a volunteer marshal for Korn Ferry Savannah Golf Championship. I continue to love writing and keep a journal blog at (Senior Savannah) The music of the 70s still fuels my soul even though I often find myself now enjoying country music. Gregg Allman lived, and recently died, right near us here in Savannah and in one of his last local interviews he recalled that at some point in your life it’s better to “remember all the real good stuff and don’t think about the tragedies”. Since our 40th reunion Doug and I have lost our parents, family members and some close friends. We are blessed that now we can thoroughly enjoy this time in our lives. 2012- 40th After graduating from Ashland University in Ohio I joined Marilyn Mustin in NYC where we lived together till our marriages. I worked for many years in fashion advertising until 1987 when I started my own agency in New Jersey. That morphed into publishing and since 1990 I’ve owned Matters Magazine (www.mattersmagazine.com) a local lifestyle publication. My husband, Doug (Wilton, CT), and I married in 1979 and have no children. It would no doubt come as a great surprise to most of my teachers at MTL that I write for a living. However, I think my greatest strength is that I recognize, hire and retain top notch local talent, offering flexible schedules. My parents retired from Pittsburgh after the unexpected death of my youngest brother, Scott, in 1992. He was just 26 years old, a graduate of the Pathfinder School in Bethel Park (one of three special education centers operated by Allegheny County) and was employed at a sheltered workshop in South Park. They then moved to Steamboat Springs, Colorado where my brother Chris (MTL ’74) lived for many years, and then to California where my brother Steve (MTL ’77) lives. They are all now in California (Steve in Simi Valley, Chris in San Luis Obispo, parents in Palm Desert). I am the lone holdout. My husband is an east coast guy, and I guess I really am too. Our plans for retiring to Savannah, Georgia are in the works. When I am not visiting California I garden, enjoy the beach, golfing, New York City, horses, wine, writing, reading and the Steelers. Owning a local magazine requires my concentrated participation in various area activities. And I remain involved in issues for the mentally disabled through New Jersey’s ARC and Mane Stream, equine assisted therapies. Doug and I reside in South Orange, NJ – a top a hill with distant views of NYC and where we watch every day the new trade tower rising over the tree line. I have not been back to Pittsburgh in years and look forward to seeing again the city of my youth and so many old and dear friends. |
