2022 - 50th "Time it was and what a time it was. A time of innocence, a time of confidences. Long ago it must be, I have a photograph. Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you." Where has the time gone? In 50 years we've seen a lot of changes, mostly for the better. Just the fact I am still around to write this update is a blessing. Being involved with the reunions, I've enjoyed reconnecting with many classmates, some I knew, many I did not. Even though we all took different paths in life, we have a common bond which makes our relationships unique. For this I am thankful. Kay and I retired in Spring 2019. It took a little time to adjust, at least a day. Very quickly I loved the new freedom of time. Looking back at my career I couldn't be happier where my path led. In global sourcing for 3 different retailers, I worked with great people, plenty of international travel and explored many a back road. Best part was meeting and sharing my life and heart with countless people of different races, cultures, and backgrounds. These memories I will preserve for a long time. After moving from Columbus, Ohio we are very settled in Texas and have lived in the same house for 33 years. Our two kids are happily married and doing well. Best part is they both live within 15 minutes so we are able to share their lives and see our grandkids a lot. We have five granddaughters and one grandson, ranging in age from kindergarten to freshman in college. We never turn down a chance to see them, this alone keeps us very busy. To keep active we have an RV so enjoy taking road trips anywhere we want to go. Many short trips, the longest was a 5 week second honeymoon adventure. Since we still had the original AAA trip ticket and details where we stayed, ate and even bought gas we retraced our 1977 honeymoon route from Ohio to Seattle to California. Our honeymoon was in a Volkswagen Rabbit and a one person tent so it was fun taking the RV and staying COVID safe within our own self contained private space. We are both anxious to get vaccinated to start the road back to normalcy. It's been a crazy year, but hopefully by our 50th we should be back to normal, whatever that is. See you all soon. In the meantime stay safe, stay well, stay happy... 2012 - 40th WORK My father was transferred to Ashland, KY halfway through senior year, so we moved with the family 3 days after graduation, and it was unfortunate to lose contacts so fast. Went to U. of K. where I majored in moonshine, hillbilly women and poker. My minor was incompletes, no one told me I had to go to class to get credits. After 1 ½ years of college/ 9 credits but a ton of fun my parental funding was cut off. Went to work for JC Penney in 1974 (Zanesville and Columbus) ending at corporate offices in Dallas in 1988, first as a buyer, then in strategic sourcing quality. Left JCP in 1998 to become Director of Quality-Haggar Clothing Co. Wanting to expand out of clothing so went to work for Michaels Stores in 2008. The quality and sourcing work has allowed me to travel, 42 country stamps in my passport, averaging 5-6 international trips a year. Love what I do, never a dull moment. PERSONAL Married 35 years to Buckeye wife Kay who is an RN, (hospitals, doc offices, last 17 years as a school nurse). Living in the same house since we moved to Highland Village Texas (suburb of Dallas-population 16k). Raised our two kids here, one son/daughter. Both are married, living close by with 2 daughters each. The 4 grand-daughters keep us young, they all spent New Year’s Eve with us; realize we’re not as young as we used to be. We love Dallas and the South, do not miss the snow and cold, do miss the Steelers, do not like Jerry Jones/Cowboys. Still have my first car, 1969 Triumph GT6+. Republican, probably a moderate conservative. Enjoy local politics; have served on several boards/commissions since moving here. Actually planning to run for Mayor in May elections, a volunteer position so I will still have to keep my day job! Always say bass fishing is my hobby but never seem to have time for it. |
